All-on-4 Dental Implants (Smile XZ)

Have you considered traditional implants, but felt discouraged by a long treatment timeline involving two or more surgeries?

All-on-4® is an alternative approach that can immediately support a full denture after one surgery, often without bone grafting.

Southern Dental Implant Center provides Memphis with top-quality All-on-4 implant-supported dentures built to last.

What Is All-on-4?

All-on-4 is a variation on traditional dental implant dentures. Instead of using six to eight implants to support a full-arch denture on the upper or lower jaw, this approach uses just four implants per dental arch. The patient receives two vertical implants in the front of the jaw, while two posterior dental implants are placed at angles to achieve the best possible support from the remaining jawbone tissue. This not only makes it possible to attach a denture to your implants immediately following a single surgical procedure, but also makes preliminary bone grafting unnecessary in many cases.

I am so pleased with my implants. Dr. Collier is excellent and has great bedside manner. His staff and his assistants are awesome. He wanted everything to be perfect even if that meant having an extra visit. I was very impressed with his credentials when I was doing my research for an implant specialist and I’m glad that I chose Southern Dental Implant Center.

I had a great experience at Southern Dental. I was able to get my implant done in one day. The second day I had a flipper made so I wouldn't be seen with a hole in my mouth. All the staff were very courteous and helpful. Office was easy to find, good parking, nice big sign out front, and very comfortable. I highly recommend this dental center if you need an implant.

A Faster Track to a Repaired Smile What Happens During All-on-4 Treatment

As our patient, you can expect outstanding treatment at every stage of your care.

Day of Procedure

As our patient, you can expect outstanding treatment at every stage of your care.

Anesthesia

Before your dental surgery begins, you will receive local anesthesia that will keep the treatment area numb throughout the procedure. Sedation is available upon request.

Incisions and Placement

Dr. Collier will make incisions in the gums. Next, he will create small pilot holes in the bone tissue and insert the dental implants. The two front dental implants are placed vertically; the two posterior dental implants are placed at angles. Finally, the dentist will close the incisions to form a seal around the implants. A portion of the dental implants will remain above the gumline in order to attach to the dentures.

Temporary Dentures

In the majority of cases, patients receive a temporary denture immediately following placement of All-on-4 dental implants. You will be discharged from our care to rest for the remainder of the day, and we will schedule follow-up dental visits to monitor your healing.

The Final Step: Your Permanent Denture

You will wear your temporary full-arch denture for about three to six months while your implants become permanently fused to your jawbone. During this time, you will already be able to experience the benefits of improved enunciation thanks to a stable and secure denture. You will also find that there is no need to shy away from photos or sharing a laugh with friends - your denture will stay in place the entire time.

However, you won't be able to eat tough, crunchy, or chewy foods until you have completely healed. Until that time, you will want to eat only soft foods and liquids.

Once Dr. Collier confirms that the implants have completely fused with the jawbone, you can receive your permanent full-arch denture. Following this step, you can begin using your dentures to enjoy any foods you choose, from crisp apples to barbecue.

Stephen, All-On-X

Patient, Stephen, Describes His All-on-X Experience

It's a common misconception that tooth replacement with implants always requires an implant for every missing tooth. This approach uses just four dental implants to support a full-arch denture, often without the need for a bone graft.

Budgeting for All-on-4

Like traditional dental implants, All-on-4 dental implants don't qualify for coverage under basic dental insurance plans. However, you can expect that these policies will contribute to at least a portion of the cost of the denture and any preparatory work you require, such as treatment for gum disease, or extraction of natural teeth that cannot be saved.

Southern Dental Implant Center in Cordova is a provider that believes in making this implant treatment accessible to patients who need it. We offer financing that can allow you to pay for your treatment in monthly installments that fit your budget. During your free consultation, you will receive a cost estimate. At that time, we can explain your financing options and begin working with your provider to secure the best coverage possible for all applicable portions of your treatment.

All-on-4 FAQs

Does implant placement hurt?

No. You will be completely numbed before this dentistry treatment begins. For those who feel anxious or have trouble sitting comfortably for long periods, IV sedation is available to ensure you are completely comfortable. Dr. Collier is certified in this technique to help you experience deep relaxation in complete safety.

How long will my dental implants last?

All-on-4 dental implants are made of titanium. With proper care, they can last a lifetime. All you have to do is treat your replacement teeth just like natural teeth: brush twice a day, floss at least once each day, and make sure to see us at least twice a year so we can detect and treat any oral health issues as soon as possible.

Are traditional implants "better" than All-on-4?

The only thing that makes one type of implant better than the other is the needs of the patient. All-on-4 is only for those who are missing a full arch of teeth on the upper or lower arch. However, a person who is missing all of their teeth could also choose to receive six to eight traditional implants per arch to support their denture. Dr. Collier will gladly answer your questions during a consultation, but generally speaking, patients who choose to support a full denture with All-on-4 implants will experience no difference in stability and other benefits than those who choose traditional implants.

Have more questions?

We Also Provide All-On-6

If you happen to need more than four implants to support your denture, but still want to be able to skip the bone graft, we also offer the All-on-6 solution. As the name implies, it incorporates two additional implants for added support. During your consultation, we can determine which of these techniques will best suit your needs.
