Understanding Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Jason Collier, DDS with a patient

Many dental patients don't know this, but not everyone has four wisdom teeth. Some patients have as many as eight, while a lucky segment of the population have just two wisdom teeth — or even none at all.

We use 3D scans to see how many wisdom teeth you have. Then, we determine a unique plan of action for your mouth.

Even if you're not currently noticing the signs of wisdom tooth impaction, you can still plan ahead. Preventative wisdom tooth extractions can save you time and help avoid stress and pain. If want to talk about your tooth extraction options, visit us for a free, no-obligation consultation.

What Happens Next After My Tooth Has Been Removed?

Of course, if you're having a baby tooth or wisdom teeth extracted, you won't need to replace it. But, if you're having any other kind of adult tooth removed, then there are a few more steps to take.
After an extraction, you can rely on our team to fill the gap in your smile with an implant and crown.

Healing

First, you will have to let the extraction site heal completely before our dentists can begin the next part of the process. This can take about three to four weeks.

Implant Placement

When your gums are ready, our dentist can place a dental implant, or artificial tooth root. He will keep you sedated during the process, so that you don't feel any discomfort. He may also attach an abutment.

Osseointegration

Dental implants are incredibly stable thanks to a process called osseointegration. It allows your implant to fuse with your jawbone and gums over a period of four to six months.

Restoration

Our dentist will finish your implant treatment by placing a lifelike dental crown onto your implant and abutment. It will look just like your natural teeth, giving you a beautiful new smile.
