We know that for some patients, a trip to the dentist can be stressful, and that this anxiety can sometimes keep them from receiving the dental care they need and want. At the Southern Dental Implant Center, we offer sedation dentistry to help our patients overcome their anxiety and undergo procedures in a state of relaxation.
All of the dentists at our practice serving the Memphis area are certified to provide IV and oral conscious sedation dentistry. Patients from throughout Tennessee turn to us for exceptional dental care and a comfortable, relaxing overall experience.
Benefits of Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry helps our patients relax and remain pain free during dental visits. It is especially beneficial for patients who have a high level of anxiety or fear about visiting the dentist, or for those who have an overly sensitive gag reflex or difficulty getting numb. It also helps patients undergo multiple procedures in a single office visit or to undergo a surgical procedure such as dental implant placement while in a state of comfort. Another advantage of sedation dentistry is that patients have little or no memory of procedures once the sedative effect wears off.
At our practice serving the Memphis area, we use sedation dentistry primarily during dental implant surgery; however, it can also be used during cosmetic dentistry treatments and restorative dentistry procedures to help patients feel at ease and relaxed. Our dentists will discuss sedation dentistry with you during your consultation for implant, cosmetic, or restorative dentistry.
The Sedation Dentistry Procedure
We offer Intravenous (IV) and oral conscious sedation dentistry at our practice. During both of these types of conscious sedation, you will remain alert and able to respond to the requests of the dentist and team, but you will be in a state of deep relaxation. You will be unable to feel pain and will emerge from treatment without remembering the details.
IV Conscious Sedation - Sedative medications are administered directly into the blood stream during conscious IV sedation. The IV delivery method allows the amount of sedative to be regulated. Our highly trained team will monitor your vital signs throughout your procedure and adjust the amount of sedative as is necessary to ensuring your safety and comfort.
Oral Conscious Sedation – You will be given a small pill to take about an hour before your appointment. You will need someone to drive you to our office. By the time you arrive, you will feel drowsy. We will monitor you throughout to ensure that you remain safe and completely comfortable.
We encourage patients who are interested in sedation dentistry throughout Tennessee to contact our practice to learn more about the possibilities.
