The team at the Southern Dental Implant Center believes in flexibility when helping patients. This may be why so many people in and around the Memphis area believe in what we have to offer. Indeed, flexibility is important to consider when getting dental implants, which are artificial tooth roots made to hold restorations in place in a tooth gap. Let's take a moment to consider how you can use a flex spending account (FSA) to pay for dental treatment.

About Flex Spending Accounts (FSAs)

Flex spending accounts (FSAs) are special health and dental care accounts that are set up using a specified amount of money taken out of a person's paycheck each month. The money is set aside before taxes are taken out of the employee's wages. The funds from this account can be used to reimburse the employee for approved medical and dental care expenses.

Note: The FSA is for reimbursement purposes only and money cannot be withdrawn prior to the procedure in order to pay for treatment. Paperwork and documentation will be necessary to receive reimbursement.

Setting Up a Flex Spending Account (FSA)

Flex spending accounts (FSAs) are set up at the beginning of the calendar year, with very strict deadlines and stringent, narrow stipulations for late enrollments. If you are interested in setting up an FSA, be sure to consult with your employer for more information.

Are dental implants an eligible expense for flex spending account (FSA)?

Yes.

Dental implants are an eligible dental care expense, meaning that the oral surgery and the placement of the implant post(s) will be covered. The cost of the restoration is covered as well since it's a restorative dentistry treatment.

In general, the only dental care expenses that are not covered by flex spending account (FSA) funds are ones that are purely elective/cosmetic in nature.

Is there a cap on my flex spending account (FSAs)?

Yes.

There is an annual cap of $2,500 for flex spending accounts (FSAs). Some plans will allow for rollover of unused money to the next year, but this is not always the case. Be sure to consult with your FSA provider about these matters.

Plan Your Treatment Right to Maximize Your Flex Spending Account (FSA) Benefit

The cost of dental implants treatment can run relatively high, but since the treatment is covered by a flex spending account (FSA), you can plan carefully and maximize the benefit from the FSA. Carefully set aside funds and consider how to use different payment options in addition to your FSA to save in the long run. Also keep in mind that since the FSA affects your income, there is a savings when you file your annual income tax.

We suggest consulting with your employer or a financial strategist about how to best utilize your FSA if you do intend to undergo major dental work.

Other Options for Payment to Consider

In addition to flex spending accounts (FSAs), there are financing options to consider that can help ease the burden of paying for dental work. We can discuss these matters as well as the overall nature of the implant dentistry process in much greater detail during a consultation. We are more than happy to answer your questions and address your concerns.
