Love my new dentist Dr. Jason Collier and his staff! They are the sweetest and most helpful people. I picked Dr. Collier because he is a well learned man in his profession of choice and continues his education. Loved the use of concious sedation for a virtually pain free procedure. I would recommend Dr. Collier and his staff to everyone.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses a combination of medicines to give patients a deep sense of relaxation. When you receive sedation, you will also receive an anesthetic to block pain. This combination of medications and anesthetics erases anxiety and makes dental treatment virtually pain-free

There are three types of sedation that are commonly used: nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and intravenous (IV) sedation. Our dentists, Dr. Jason Collier offers IV and oral conscious sedation. Unlike general anesthesia, which makes you unconscious, and nitrous oxide, which simply makes you euphoric, conscious sedation puts you in a dreamlike state. The level of your sedation can be adjusted to mild, moderate, or deep based on the procedure you are undergoing and how sensitive you are to pain.

Is Dental Sedation Right for Me?

While many people seek out sedation to overcome anxiety over dental treatments, anxiety is not the only reason to take advantage of this dental service.

Dr. Collier at Southern Dental Implant Center typically use sedation dentistry during lengthy procedures such as dental implant surgery. However, it can also be used during cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry procedures to help patients feel at ease and relaxed.

Other reasons why people turn to dental sedation include:

  • Strong gag reflex
  • Long dental procedure
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • Surgical procedure
  • Anxiety about dental care
  • Medical conditions that make sitting difficult

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

Sedation is a safe procedure when administered by trained dentists. Southern Dental Implant Center in Cordova is a certified conscious sedation provider. In addition, our board-certified dentist Jason Collier has refined a technique that allows even the most anxious patients to relax during treatment.

What to Expect When You Choose Sedation Dentistry

We offer both oral conscious and intravenous (IV) conscious sedation dentistry at Southern Dental Implant Center. During both of these types of conscious sedation, you will be able to respond to the requests of the dentist and team, but you will be in a state of deep relaxation. Best of all, you will be unable to feel pain and will emerge from dental treatment without remembering the details.

IV Sedation

Sedative medications are administered directly into the bloodstream so they work quickly. IV sedation allows a deeper state of relaxation and you will have no memory of your treatment. Our highly trained team will monitor your vital signs throughout your dentistry procedure and adjust the dosage to ensure your comfort and safety.

Oral Sedation

You will be given a sedative in a pill form to take about an hour before your appointment. You will need someone to drive you to our office. By the time you arrive, you will feel drowsy. We will monitor you throughout to ensure that you remain safe and completely comfortable.
